《神秘海域2：纵横四海》是一款PS3平台独占动作冒险游戏，故事的线索将围绕着13世纪意大利探险家马可波罗的伟大探险和他去世后遗留下的大量历史空白。

这段空白始于1292年。马可波罗离开忽必烈的元大都之后，率领着满载稀世珍宝的14艘大船和600 多名水手向意大利进发，但最后抵达威尼斯时却只剩下了他自己和一条船上的十几个幸存者。有关这期间发生的故事，马可波罗从未对世人提起，也没有留下任何可靠的书面记录，至少从目前来看是如此。因此，这段历史空白也就成了剧作家们天马行空发挥想象力的最好平台。Amy Hennig告诉我们，在《神秘海域2》中，德雷克最初的目标是寻找700多年前那十几艘下落不明的货船的下落。随着剧情的逐步展开，他找到了马可波罗在西藏发现的真正宝藏——香巴拉，也就是西方人从几个世纪前至今一直无比憧憬的人间天堂香格里拉。
