How Overseas Users Can Access Files Shared from Chinese Baidu Netdisk
A Step-by-Step Guide
If you have friends or clients in China who share files with you via Baidu Netdisk (the Chinese version), you might think you need a Chinese phone number to register. Good news: you don't.
Follow this simple guide to access those shared files without any hassle.
Important Note for EU Users
Users from EU countries (Spain, France, Germany, Italy, etc.) – please be aware that the registration method below does NOT work for EU phone numbers due to Baidu's registration restrictions. If you are in the EU, you will not see your country code in the list.
If you encounter this issue, please post a reply at the end of this thread describing your situation, and we will try to find an alternative solution for you.
For users from the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, and other non-EU countries, the guide below should work normally.
Step 1: Download the Correct App
Do not try to download the app from the Chinese website. Instead, use your local app store:
| Device | Where to search | | iPhone / iPad | App Store (your local country) | | Android | Google Play |
Search for: "Baidu Netdisk"
Download the app that appears in the search results. This is the overseas version, which works perfectly with links shared from the Chinese version.
Step 2: Register an Account
You do not need a Chinese (+86) phone number. Use your local number instead.
- Open the app and tap "Sign Up" or "Register"
- Select your local country code (e.g., +1 for US, +44 for UK, +81 for Japan)
- Enter your own mobile phone number
- Enter the SMS verification code sent to your phone
- Set a password and complete registration
That's it. Your account is ready.
Step 3: Open the Shared Link
When someone sends you a Baidu Netdisk share link (and an extraction code if needed):
- Copy the link
- Paste it into your phone's browser (Safari, Chrome, etc.)
- The link should automatically open in the Baidu Netdisk app
- If asked, enter the extraction code
You will now see the shared files or folders.
Step 4: Save and Download Files
To keep the files for yourself:
| Action | How to do it | | Save to your account | Tap the file/folder → Tap "Save to My Netdisk" (cloud with down arrow icon) | | Download to your device | Go to "My Files" in the app → Open the saved file → Tap the download icon |
Tip: Saving to My Netdisk first is recommended. Then you can download later or manage files from within the app.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need a Chinese phone number?
A: No. The overseas version accepts phone numbers from almost any country. Exception: EU countries are currently not supported. See the important note at the top of this guide.
Q: Is this the same as TeraBox?
A: No. TeraBox is a completely separate service with no connection to Chinese Baidu Netdisk shares. Do not use TeraBox for this purpose. Use the Baidu Netdisk app from your local app store.
Q: Is there a free tier?
A: Yes. Free accounts have limited storage space, but it's usually enough for receiving shared files.
Q: Can I use the web browser instead of the app?
A: The overseas version works best through the mobile app. The website may redirect you to the Chinese version, which will not work with your overseas account.
Q: What if the link doesn't open in the app?
A: Try copying the link, then manually open the Baidu Netdisk app. Sometimes the app will detect the link from your clipboard and ask if you want to open it.
Final Note
This method is free, official, and requires no VPN or workarounds. The overseas version of Baidu Netdisk is designed exactly for this purpose — allowing international users to receive shares from China.
If you found this guide helpful, feel free to share it with others who need it.
Let me know if you still fail to access the files — I'm happy to help further. |
